BURLESQUE SHOW TO PROMOTE PIN-UP ART

 ARTIST WILLIAM MORTON

The Wasabassco Burlesque Review

Featuring The World Famous
Pontani Sisters

 10PM Saturday, November 27th

Southpaw, Park Slope, Brooklyn

Pin-up art of William Morton

Gallery Opening, 6PM, Sunday November 28th

 Patio Lounge, Park Slope, Brooklyn

On Saturday, November 27th, Southpaw will host a night of the best burlesque acts from the five boroughs featuring: The World Famous Pontani Sisters, Anita Cookie, Peekaboo Pointe, Afua Richardson, Scarlet Sinclair, Twirla, and many more, with your host Scott Rayow. This Burlesque-a-palooza is the mastermind promotional effort of Brooklyn artist William Morton for his series of pin-up artwork which will be featured at Patio Lounge in Park Slope, Brooklyn, with his gallery opening on Sunday November 28th at 6PM.

William Morton, a graduate of Parsons School of Design, is a cartoonist and illustrator based in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to The Adventures of Skully (syndicated as a weekly comic strip by Knight Ridder/Tribune Information Services), he is the creator of the comic book Bar Crawl of the Damned. Inspired by pin-up artists Charles Gibson, Gil Elvgren and George Petty, to modern masters like Coop, Morton’s unique style of pin-up has been seen most recently in rock posters he’s created for Southpaw over the past year to promote local musicians such as Morningwood, Les Sans Coulattes, and The Teenage Prayers.

Morton’s interest in pin-up started at the age of five, when his ex-flapper grandmother taught him how to play solitaire with a deck of naked “girlie” playing cards. “My fate has been sealed ever since,” says Morton. When asked what burlesque had to do with pin-up, Morton replied, “Burlesque is the natural extension of pin-up. They both exaggerate and idealize the concept of what we find sexy in women, but burlesque puts it in motion. Together, they’re a natural fit since both are dependant on a sense of fun and playful attitude.”

THIS OR THAT!
Coney Island USA¹s
Sideshows by the Seashore

I loved that, but then again, I love Newark! --Chuck Barris

Back by popular demand, Fred Kahl, a.k.a. THE GREAT FREDINI, renowned sword swallower, magician, improvisation wizard presents and hosts America's Favorite Burlesque Game Show - THIS OR THAT!, a twisted homage to classic game shows.  The show features two contestants picked from the audience, a wheel that issues racy challenges, two curtains concealing world class burlesque and variety artists, and sex toys for prizes. THIS IS OR THAT is back for a second season at Sideshows by the Seashore¹s Burlesque at the Beach series in Coney Island for four shows beginning June 18th through September 17th.

Bootylicious co-host Julie Atlas Muz, burlesque bombshell and recent Whitney Biennial artist, calls the shots as contestants vie for cash, prizes, and the chance to be spanked. The fun and humiliation climax when the "winning" contestant chooses one of two curtains: "This" or "That", out of which emerges either a classic burlesque hottie or an act that stinks so bad it's brilliant! The audience cheers on contestants as they meet the show's challenges answering trivia questions, stuffing marshmallows in their mouth, and guessing the weight of Wonderful Woman's rack.

Featured in the show is a wide assortment of unusual variety acts from around the world, including: the This or That Girls, Bambi and Bunny Luv, Tyler Fyre, Bradford Scobie (a.k.a. Doctor Donut), World Champion Knife Thrower - The Great Throwdini, burlesque sensation
Miss Dirty Martini, The World Famous *BOB*, the Bombshell Girls, Acroback Contortionist Jonathan Nosan, pierced nipple weight lifting world record holder The Great Nippulini, Ekaterina contortionist, Balloonhedz, and many more.   For more information, visit them on the web at http://www.coneyisland.com.

Coney Island USA¹s Sideshows by the Seashore  is located at 1208 Surf Avenue, corner of W12 Street, Brooklyn, N.Y.. D, Q or F train to Stillwell Avenue.  Tickets $15 and can be purchased at the door.

The Donkey Show
Friday at 9PM
Saturday at 8PM and 10PM
Starts back up March 5th
El Flamingo

Now, in it's fourth smash year, The Donkey Show delivers the story of A Midsummer Night's Dream by way of the sounds and sights of a 1970s discotheque, as a nightclub impresario Oberon and disco diva Titania find themselves in the midst of a timeless lovers' quarrel. El Flamingo becomes Shakespeare's enchanted forest and a classic tale unfolds to the strains of songs that defined the disco decade including: "I Love The Nightlife," "Ring My Bell," "Car Wash," and "You Sexy Thing," to name a few. Note: This event takes place in a nightclub. Tickets are general admission and, like a nightclub, there is no guaranteed seating. All patrons must be 18 years of age to enter, and 21 to drink. Tickets $35 to $39.

Note: The Donkey Show is still playing but with reduced dates.  Please call 212-307-4100 or online www.ticketmaster.com for times etc.
