Dart Bars of Upper West Side
by LBA
1020 Bar
L 1020 Amsterdam Ave (@ 110th St) 961-9224
Darts:
There is one board and most of the time you will find a game. It is
located near the entrance and by luck or by design most non players are congregating
at the back of the bar.
Overall impression:
This place has a jukebox filled with popular "alternative" hits and
a huge projection screen. Some time they show TV shows or if nothing good is
on, the bartenders will pup a movie tape. In the evening the place can be filled
with college students. I liked the old fashion dental/barber chares that
still worked.
HAPPY HOUR
Daily 4-7pm; half price beer, $2 well drinks.
Boomer's Sports Club
NL
349 Amsterdam Ave (76th St / 77th St) 362-5400
Broadway Dive Bar
L
2662 Broadway (101st St / 102nd St) 865-2662
Darts:
If you need a game, you can always cache one here. Bring your
darts and be prepared for a stiff competition. Many patrons do not like to
full around, but they are always friendly.
Overall impression:
The bartenders a quick and most of the time running a two-dollar specials on something.
Nice selection of tunes. mixed crowd of dart people, locals, and twenty
something.
HAPPY HOUR
Daily $2 specials.
Cannon's Bar
L
2794 Broadway (Southeast corner of 108th St) 678-9738
Darts:
This place has one board in the back of the bar. It is nice and out of the way with a high table for the players, unfortunately no players can perch there to. This means if at least three or four of them get there, the board gets virtually closed. I can see this happening very easy and often.
Overall impression:
The day I got there was a Guinness promotion. So I had excellent time paying $2 for an imperial pint.
Specials:
Tuesday: Acoustic blues, soul, country, rock
& roll
Dive Bar
NL
732 Amsterdam Ave (95th St / 96th St) 749-4358
Darts: One dart board that can be hidden
in the back of the bar, next to the kitchen. A funny story about
this dart board. When I was trying to pull my darts out of it, the hole back board
fell on top of me. Luckily, I caught it and my friends helped me to put it
down on the floor. After the incident, they fixed the wall and put up a new
board.
Overall impression: Nice big place, little bit
pricey for the neighborhood. Good food and good service. We do, however, love
the scuba regalia adorning the walls and ceiling. Another nice touch is
the window in front that opens onto the street.
PRICES:
$3.95-$14, entrees. $3-$8 bottled beer; $2-$5 draft; $4 well drinks.
Specials:
Every day they have a rotating $2 pint of beer.
Jake's Dilemma
NL
430 Amsterdam Ave (81st St / 82nd St) 580-0556
Darts:
If you want a game here, bring a friend or you might be disappointed. There
are always people playing, but not necessarily that they would play with you.
Although, there are two boards, they are in disparate need to be retired.
Can get crowed on a busy night, which makes playing a little bit difficult.
Overall impression:
It is very large bar, with three rooms, each with its own motif. First is a main bar with nice selection of draft and bottled beers. Second is a game room with two dartboards and a pool table. The third is back room with comfy chars. Jake's
has a dozen beers on draft, including Guinness, and a bevy of microbrews,
including their own.
Happy Hour 5-8:
Monday: Everything half price 8 pm till close: $1
drafts & $6 pitchers
Tuesday: 1/2 Price 1/2 Yards 8 pm
- close

McAleer's Pub
L
425 Amsterdam Ave (81st St / 82nd St) 874-8037
Overall:
A neighborhood joint, so don't expect models and actors. Smoky and woody.
Darts:
Two dart boards in the back of the bar, unfortunately only one is usually
open. the other has a tables in front of it.
HOURS:
Mon-Sat 8:00am- 4:00am
Sun 12:00pm- 4:00am
Night Cafe
L
938 Amsterdam Ave
(105th St / 106th St) 864-8889
Darts:
One Dart board near the door. It is OK space to play, but defiantly can use a
better light system. Don't forget to bring a partner. It is hit or miss to find
somebody playing there.
Overall:
This bar is from the time that long passed. It was established at in early
1900's, so if you are an architectural history buff, you really will appreciate
the ceiling. It is old copper or tin design (bartender did not know).
The crowd is mixed between the Columbia U students and the locals. So you
never know what music will be playing: salsa or rock.
Beer:
$4.00 for Murphy's
Tap A Keg
NL
2731 Broadway Ave (104th St / 105th St) 749-1734
Darts:
One Dart board in the back, next to the pool table. It is sometimes can be a
problem when both pool table and dart board is busy.
Overall:
The best and the worst part about the bar is its jukebox. it is set to take
a 10 songs for a dollar. It is the best when they playing your selection,
but you know that somebody else put their money in it too.
HOURS:
Mon-Fri: 2:00pm - 4:00am
Sat-Sun: 12:00pm - 4:00am
